Emerald Keepers will be helping to clean the northern end of Delta Beach in support of Naval Base Coronado’s Environmental Team.
Delta Beach, on the bay side of Silver Strand, just south of the Naval Amphibious Base is on Navy property. This stretch of coastline has been designated as a critical habitat for the western snowy plover and the California least tern. The western snowy plover is listed as threatened and the California least tern is listed as endangered under the Federal Endangered Species Act.
This cleanup has been scheduled after least tern nesting season, which runs April through September.
This is an opportunity to see a beach normally closed to human activity, clean up a habitat for vulnerable species and keep trash out of the San Diego Bay to protect marine animals.
Directions: From Coronado, head south on state Route 75 for 2.4 miles. Make a U-turn at the Fiddlers Cove Marina and RV park (Note: There is no sign or traffic light, but it’s the first left turn lane south of the Naval Amphibious Base). Head back north for about 1 mile and look for the Emerald Keepers flag by the north gate for Delta Beach. Drive carefully across the bike path and park on the sand inside the fence line.
Bring buckets, gloves, and pickers if you have them. See you there!
The City of Coronado and EDCO are sponsoring a document shredding and e-waste recycling event at the City Hall north parking lot, 1825 Strand Way.
Assemblymember Tasha Boerner will host a discussion on California’s risks and efforts to mitigate sea level rise at the Coronado Public Libarary’s Winn Room. Click here to RSVP.

Emerald Keepers will be joining I Love a Clean San Diego at Tidelands Park for California Coastal Cleanup Day. The statewide event, now in its 41st year, is organized by the California Coastal Commission and is California's largest annual volunteer event. Each September volunteers remove hundreds of thousands of pounds of trash from the state’s beaches, lakes, and waterways.
This year, the California Coastal Commission will be having a "Trashure Hunt," which is billed as the world's largest scavenger hunt. Special "trash" items will be hidden at cleanup sites all across the state. If you find one of them, you can redeem it for a prize.
Meet at Tidelands Park and look for the Emerald Keepers flag. Bring a bucket, gloves and a picker if you have them. See you there!

We have been all too accustomed to the throwaway lifestyle. If something doesn’t work, throw it out and buy a new one. Because of this behavior, our landfills are filling rapidly, and electronic waste has become one of the largest pollution generators. So why not learn how to fix it?
Bring your broken, non-functioning things: electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, etc., for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you disassemble and troubleshoot your item. Whether we fix it or not, you’ll learn more about how it was manufactured and how it worked. This is a free, family-friendly event: children are heartily invited!
Slots to fix items fill up early, so RSVP today.
This event is sponsored by Emerald Keepers, the City of Coronado, and the Coronado Public Library.
