Board of Directors Role
Board members agree to volunteer uncompensated and lend their expertise, abilities, and passion to promote the vision and mission of Emerald Keepers as a nonprofit organization. As ambassadors for Emerald Keepers, board members advance the organization’s community efforts in science-based, apolitical education, advocacy, action, and celebration of all-things “Emerald Green, Ocean Blue.”
Responsibilities
» Board members are responsible for the management and affairs of the organization and guiding the entity toward a fiscally sound and sustainable future through:
Financial oversight
Strategic planning and implementation
Program monitoring and facilitating
Participating on a board committee or team
Ensuring mission/vision alignment
Engaging with community members and organizations
Personal giving and fundraising support
» Standards of conduct include acting in the best interests of the organization and an obligation to conduct thoughtful inquiry
Contribution
» Each board member should contribute to the organization in the form of volunteer time, fundraising, advocacy, and connecting personal networks to Emerald Keepers
» Board members should be willing to serve on committees and teams that align with their skill, expertise, ability, and interests
Attendance
» Board members are expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings including monthly board meetings, as well as programs and organizational events
» If a board member will be absent from a meeting, written notice should be provided in advance to the President of the Board prior to the meeting
» If (3) meetings are missed during one year without notice, the board member will automatically forfeit their position on the board
Requirements
» Strong connection to Coronado as a current or former resident, business owner, or community leader
» May serve two consecutive three-year terms and be nominated to return to the Board after a one-year hiatus
» Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion regarding organizational information and internal business discussions
