HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Emerald Keepers is an organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and awareness. The internship program offers high school students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship, community outreach, and sustainability initiatives.

SCOPE OF WORK

Emerald Keepers is seeking motivated, environmentally minded high school interns for the 2024-2025 school year to contribute a minimum of 34 hours of work during the school year as described below:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a Passion Project:

    • Policy Team: Focus on single-use plastics reduction; clean water, air, and power iniatives.

    • Emerald Green, Ocean Blue Classrooms: Promote sustainable practices in classrooms and schools.

    • Workshops / Camps: Organize and facilitate educational workshops and camps for elementary children.

    • Media Team: Create content for social media posts, write articles, and produce videos.

  • Field Work in the CHS Emerald Keepers Garden and Compost: 

    • Commitment of at least 6 Saturday work sessions.

  • Support Trading Card Program.

    • Attend school events to distribute cards.

  • Participated in school sustainability assemblies:

    • Present at Village, Strand, CMS, Christ Church, Sacred Heart schools.

  • Assist with Emerald Keepers’ events.

OTHER INTERN OPPORTUNITIES Open to all interns

·      Field Trip to EDCO Recycling Center

·      Field Trip to IB Food Pantry

·      Overnight Trip to Sacramento Trip to advocate for state-wide plastic reduction and sewage-free beaches (TBD)

COMMITMENT

By applying for Emerald Keepers’ internship program, potential interns – if accepted—commit to no less than 34 hours of extra-curricular volunteer work throughout the year as described. 

  • Each intern will maintain an online work log, updated monthly (best to update as you complete each event).

  • Interns will attend one (occasionally two) meeting(s) a month at the Public Library (September - May). This time will be used to teach environmental sustainability, work on passion projects, and share opportunities. Meeting time may not lie ogged as work time unless interns are working on a passion project.

  • Intern are invited to attend Emerald Keepers Board meetings, but are only required to attend one meeting.

ELIGIBIILTY

·      High school students who attend Coronado High School.

·      Passionate about environmental conservation and sustainability.

·      Strong academic record and extracurricular involvement.

·      Ability to commit to a year-long internship.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please complete the online application by August 30, 2024, at 5pm. Selected candidates will be invited to interview on Saturday, September 7 or Monday afternoon, September 9. New interns will be announced on September 16. Please note, intern bios, personal statements, and headshots will be posted on Emerald Keepers’ website and in press releases.
