Marine Plastics: Chemistry of Plastic Degradation

  • Coronado Public Library Winn Room 640 Orange Avenue Coronado, CA, 92118 United States (map)

Marine plastic, marine debris, microplastics…words that are commonly heard but what do they really mean?  Where do they come from? How do they break down?  Are they harmful?

On January 21, 2020, Rikki McDaniel with North American Marine Environment Protection will answer these questions and more!   Mrs. McDaniel holds a BS in Marine Biology and has many years of technical and teaching experience in the marine science field.   She will discuss the composition of plastic, some of the common terms (PET, PBA, BPA), how plastic breaks down, microplastics, public education, and steps we can all take to  “Change One Habit-Change The World.” Together we can Save Our Seas!
