2026-2027 HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Emerald Keepers is an organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and awareness. The internship program offers high school students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship, community outreach, and sustainability initiatives.

SCOPE OF WORK

Emerald Keepers is seeking motivated, environmentally minded high school interns to contribute a minimum of 35 hours of work during the school year as described below:

• Work in the CHS Emerald Keepers Garden

»   Attend at least 4 garden meetings in the fall and 6 garden meetings in the spring.

• Assist with at least four different Emerald Keepers’ events, including but not limited to:

»  Beach clean-ups (1st Saturday of the month)
»   San Diego Climate Week (October)
»   Fix-it clinic (March)
»   Home front judging (March)
»   Flower Show Booth (April)

• Plan and implement a passion project

»   Select from list of preapproved projects or come up with own
»   Complete proposal form with timeline
»   At end of year, complete project evaluation

COMMITMENT

In addition to completing the above volunteer hours, Emerald Keepers interns are required to:

  • Maintain an ongoing log of volunteer hours to be submitted on the last day of each month

  • Attend monthly intern meetings held during CHS lunch (meetings do not count toward the intern hours requirement)

  • Attend at least one Emerald Keepers Board Meeting to present your passion project (held monthly on Monday evenings)

ELIGIBIILTY

  • High school students who attend Coronado High School.

  • Passionate about environmental conservation and sustainability

  • Strong academic record and extracurricular involvement

  • Ability to commit to a yearlong internship

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications for the 2026-27 school year will be open Aug. 3-Aug. 21. Selected candidates will be invited to interview. Please note, intern bios, personal statements, and headshots will be posted on Emerald Keepers’ website and in press releases.
